Her Armor Series

Her Sword

…was forged by the Spirit into the Word of God.  It is our only weapon, every other piece of our Armor is designed to protect.  Our Sword is designed to fight, much too often we leave it on the shelf.  We must train ourselves to never go into battle without it. Even if that battle is with ourselves.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

God’s Word is alive and active and it strips us down all the way to the marrow of our bones.  When we read it, listen to it and allow it to do its work in our lives we win the battle.

As we see the world crumbling in terror around us it becomes easy to let fear and sadness consume us.  This week as we settled into church our Pastor read Psalm 91, it has always been one of my favorites.

How do we use this living and active Word as our Sword?

Her

Just like this…

We say:  I am so alone

The Word says:  Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

We Say:  I am so tired

The Word Says:  He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

We Say:  I’m Scared

The Word Says:  You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

We Say:  How will you protect me, Lord?

The Words Says:  If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

We Say:  Lord, help me!

The Word Says: “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;  I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.  He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

How can God promise all of these things?  There is war, poverty, sickness, loneliness, depression and death all around us. Some of us are living with one or more of these things right now.

As Psalm 91 was being written God had already planned for our salvation.  His Plan? Jesus

When Jesus came Light entered this dark world – a Light that will never dim

light

Jesus would say these words… “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Psalm 91 speaks of security and peace, in the midst of trouble.  Do we trust and believe those words?

Do we believe that through Jesus peace is ours in the midst of trouble?

When battles come, where will our Sword be, sitting on shelf?

or

Will we hold it firmly in our hands and in our heart?

Will we wield it and overcome with Jesus?
