Marvelous Light

The words of this Psalm are David’s words of worship to the Lord. He was known as a man with a heart after God. He was a man who spent time worshiping God, in a field, with only sheep as his fellow worshipers. He simply loved God, a pure and beautiful thing, walking in the light with the Lord.

David the Shepherd becomes David the King. David the King made some big mistakes. One gaze, led to adultery, which then led to murder. Sin is a slippery slope, a slippery slope into darkness.
We like to think that when we slip into sin, into darkness the Lord is not there, He does not see. He tells us that He is the God who sees – darkness does not exist with Him.

Psalm 139
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,

He sees in the heights and in the deep places of our souls. He sees when we wake and where we walk.

10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

He is wonderful, He never stops guiding us. He holds us tight in His hand. He loves us that much.

Like a mama, holding the hand of her toddler as they walk across the street. She holds it tight and fast, that no harm will come to her little one.  That is how our Father holds us.

11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

There is no darkness in the presence of the Lord, He lives within us. Jesus the Christ has made it so. We may slip into darkness every now and then, His light wraps around us. Night looks just like day. Darkness is Light.

He is the God of David. From the line of David’s came Jesus. Jesus is our brother our friend our Savior – the Light of the World. We walk in His Marvelous Light.
